ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate the effect of adding a geometric feature on the accuracy of digital impressions obtained by intraoral scanners for implant restoration of edentulous jaw quantitatively. Methods: A dentiform model of the maxilla of completely edentulous arch with 6 implant analogs+scan bodies (No. 1-6) was selected as the reference model. Without geometric feature, the dentiform model was scanned by dental model scanner and repeated for 5 times as true value group. Before and after adding the geometric feature, the same operator used intraoral scanner A (Trios 3) and B (Aoralscan 2) to scan the dentiform model with the same scanning path. Each type of intraoral scanner scanned 10 times and ".stl " datas were obtained. The results were imported into reverse engineering software (Geomagic Studio 2015). The linear distances of center point of upper plane between sacn body 1 to 6 was calculated, denoted as D12, D13, D14, D15 and D16. Trueness was the absolute value subtracted from the measured value of the intraoral scanner groups and true value; precision was the absolute value of pairwise subtraction of the measured values in the intraoral scanner groups. The smaller the value, the better the accuracy or precision. With or without the feature, all scan data were statistically analyzed, and the effect of adding geometric feature on the trueness and precision of the two intraoral scanners were evaluated. Results: As for intraoral scanner A, with the feature in place, significant differences were found in D14, D15, D16 for tureness(t=2.66, 2.75, 2.95, P<0.05); the trueness for D16 decreased from (101.9±47.1) μm to (49.6±30.3) μm. On the other hand, with features on the edentulous area, the precision was significantly increased in D15 and D16 (U=378.00, 672.00, P<0.05); the precision for D15 decreased from 40.8 (45.1) μm to 13.1 (17.0) μm. As for intraoral scanner B, the trueness of D12, D13 and D14 after adding geometric features was significantly better than before (t=3.02, 2.66, U=22.00, P<0.05). With feature on the edentulous area, the trueness for D13 decreased from (116.6±41.2) μm to (70.8±35.5) μm. There was no statistical significance in the trueness of D15 and D16 with or without geometric feature (P>0.05), however, the precision of D15 and D16 after adding geometric feature was significantly better than before (U=702.00, 489.00,P<0.05). The precision of D16 decreased from 112.5 (124.7) μm to 35.9 (85.8) μm. Conclusions: The use of geometric feature in edentulous space improves the trueness and precision of the different principle intraoral scanners tested.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE@#The increasing number of deaths due to road traffic accidents (RTAs) has attracted global attention. However, the influence of road types is rarely considered in the study of RTAs. This study evaluates the influence of different road types in RTAs in northern Guizhou to provide a basis for the formulation of evidence-based policies and measures.@*METHODS@#We obtained the data from the Zunyi Traffic Management Data Platform for the years 2009-2018. The mortality rates of RTAs were calculated. Descriptive methods and Chi-square tests were used to analyze the characteristics of road traffic collisions on different road types. We also examined the associations between the mortality rate per 10,000 vehicles and the growth of per capital gross domestic product (GDP) with Spearman's rank correlation analysis. According to the passing volume and the infrastructure, we defined different types of roads, like administrative road, functional road, general urban road and urban expressway.@*RESULTS@#In 2012, the traffic mortality rate of administrative roads was 8.9 per 100,000 people, and the mortality rate of functional roads was 7.4 per 100,000 people, which decreased in 2018 to 6.1 deaths per 100,000 people and 5.2 deaths per 100,000 people, respectively. The mortality rate per 10,000 vehicles reached the highest level in 2011 (28.8 per 10,000 vehicles and 22.5 per 10,000 vehicles on administrative and functional roads, respectively). The death rate of county roads was the highest among administrative roads (χ@*CONCLUSION@#Although our research shows that RTAs in northern Guizhou have steadily declined in recent years, the range of decline is relatively small. Many measures and sustainable efforts are needed to control road traffic death and accelerate the progress in road traffic safety in northern Guizhou.

ABSTRACT

Traditional Chinese Medicine massage is a kind of physiotherapy which affects on specific parts of the body surface by means of training to regulate the function of the body to achieve the therapeutic effect. In this work, under positive detection model, the chemical fingerprint of exhaled breath from volunteers before and after receiving Traditional Chinese Medicine massage within m/z 50-1000 were detected by extractive electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (EESI-MS). And through high resolution mass spectrometry analysis, the metabolites such as epinephrine (m/z 184. 0889), 3-(3-hydroxyphenyl) propionic acid (m/z 167.0615) and L-tryptophan (m/z 205. 0933) were successfully identified. Besides, chemical fingerprints of volunteers before and after receiving Traditional Chinese Medicine massage under different health condition were clearly differentiated via partial least squares discrimination analysis (PLS-DA). The results showed that Traditional Chinese Medicine massage could significantly change the metabolic process of volunteers. Moreover, it further indicated that the established method could provide a real time fashion to follow metabolic changes caused by Traditional Chinese Medicine massage.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the therapeutic effects of combined application of survivin antisense nucleic acid and taxol in subcutaneous xenograft mouse model of Balb/c and to preliminarily investigate the mechanism of the anticancer effects. Methods The model of subcutaneous tumor was established by hypodermic injection of C26 cells into Bal b/c mice. The mice were then randomly divided into five groups through the internal tumor injection:the blank group (C),lipo2000 group (L),paclitaxel group (T),survivin antisense nucleic acid group (A),and survivin antisense nucleic acid combined with paclitaxel group (A+T).We observed tumor growth, determined cell apoptosis by TUNEL method, and detected the expression of survivin by Western blot. Results ① All treatment groups had T/C<60%,which was significantly different from that of group L (P <0.05);the intervention was proved effective in vivo .The tumor inhibition rate of mice tumor weight showed that there were significantly curative effects in groups T,A and A+ T compared with that in group C (P < 0.05 ).The antitumor activity of paclitaxel (tumor inhibition rate of 21.82%±0.84%)could be improved by more than 59% through combination therapy (tumor inhibition rate of 54.1 6% ± 0.32%)concerning inhibition of tumor weight growth.② TUNEL method detected apoptotic cells:The tumor cells hardly had apoptosis in the blank group while T group and A group had a certain number of apoptotic cells. The experiment results suggested that PTX could promote tumor cell apoptosis, and that not only A+T strengthened the effect in killing tumor cells, but also the synergy of both could influence tumor resistance and ultimately make the effect in promoting tumor cell apoptosis conspicuous.③ The expression of survivin protein:The results showed that the expression of survivin protein in group A + T was obviously decreased without the expression of β-actin affected;it did not change significantly in group C compared with group L.The ratio of the A-value in groups T,A and A+T was 0.895 ±0.01 1,0.704 ±0.121 and 0.345 ± 0.01 9,respectively.Analysis of variance t-test showed that the expression level in group A+T obviously differed from that in groups C,L,A and T (P <0.05).Conclusion The combined therapy of survivin antisense nucleic acid and taxol can promote tumor cell apoptosis by downregulating the expression of survivin protein, reduce the body’s resistance to drugs and create synergetic effects.

ABSTRACT

Aim To investigate the cytotoxicity of XN4 against AML cells, and the underlying mechanisms by which XN4 might induce DNA damage and apoptotic cell death through reactive oxygen species ( ROS ) . Methods The proliferation inhibition ratio of AML cells was measured by MTT. The level of extracellular ROS, DNA damage, cell cycle process and apoptosis were tested by flow cytometry ( FCM ) . Western blot was applied to test the expression of proteins. Results XN4 significantly inhibited the proliferation of HL-60 and KG1α with IC50 ( 2. 79 ± 0. 15 ) μmol · L-1 and (2. 76 ± 0. 20) μmol·L-1 respectively. XN4 signifi-cantly increased the generation of intracellular ROS, followed by inducing DNA damage and activating the ATM-γ-H2AX signaling, which led to increases of cells in the S phases of the cell cycle. Subsequently, XN4 induced apoptotic cell death through activation of caspase-3 and Parp. Moreover, the above effects were all reversed by the ROS scavenger N-acetylcysteine ( NAC ) . Conclusion XN4-induced DNA damage and cell apoptosis in AML cells are mediated via ROS generation.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To discuss the relationship between structural change in nasal cavity and the change of nasal ventilatory function after outfracture of the inferior turbinate.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The inferior turbinate outfracture surgery was performed on 50 chronic hypertrophic rhinitis patients who suffered inferior turbinate hypertrophy according to endoscopy and CT scan. Preoperative and postoperative nasal endoscopy was carried out on all patients, by which the distance from the inferior turbinate front mucous membrane to nasal septum (DTNS) was measured. In addition, CT was used to measure the minimal distance between the inside edges of the bilateral inferior turbinate soft tissue (MDTT) and the minimal distance between the bilateral inferior turbinate bones (MDTB) at the central layer of coronal sectional infundibulum; the minimal distance between the inferior turbinate at asial nasal limen (NLDT); inferior turbinate thickness (ITT). In this way, the change in the structure of nasal cavity was evaluated. Acoustic rhinometry and rhinomanometry were utilized to evaluate the ventilatory function of the nasal cavity objectively. Visual analogue scale (VAS) was applied to evaluate the severity of preoperative and postoperative nasal obstruction subjectively. The test data were used to perform match t-test; Spearman rank correlation was adopted to evaluate the relationship between patients' bilateral VAS and nasal inspiratory effective resistance (IER),nasal expiratory effective resistance (EER) and DTNS. The relationship between the total resistance of nasal inspiratory phase as well as the total resistance of nasal expiratory phase and MDTT and MDTB was analyzed. SPSS 20.0 software was used to analyze the data.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The preoperative data showed that rightward DTNS was (0.12 ± 0.07) cm, leftward DTNS was (0.10 ± 0.07) cm and MDTT was (0.70 ± 0.13) cm, and postoperative data showed that rightward DTNS was (0.47 ± 0.27) cm, leftward DTNS was (0.43 ± 0.15) cm, and MDTT was (1.05 ± 0.15) cm. Significant differences existed in rightward DTNS, leftward DTNS and MDTT between pre-and post operative data (t values were -8.827, -8.590, -17.525, all P < 0.05). According to the preoperative and postoperative comparison, the difference in MDTB, NLDT, rightward ITT, leftward ITT, IER, EER, 0-5 cm nasal cavity volume (0-5 cm NCV), nasal minimal cross-sectional area (NMCA), rightward VAS and leftward VAS had statistical significance (t values were -23.562, -8.374, 8.693, 6.684, 12.021, 14.510, -6.074, -2.285, 14.042 and 9.925, respectively, all P < 0.05). Patients' bilateral VAS grades had a positive relationship with IER and EER (left side: r values were 0.541 and 0.660, respectively, right side: r values were 0.940 and 0.688, respectively, all P < 0.05). Additionally, patients' VAS had a negative relationship with DTNS (r value was -0.861, P < 0.05). Besides, the total resistance of nasal inspiratory phase had a negative relationship with both MDTT and MDTB (r values were -0.565 and -0.546,respectively, all P < 0.05). The total resistance of nasal expiratory phase had a negative relationship with both MDTT and MDTB (r values were -0.562 and -0.546, all P <0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The inferior turbinate outfracture surgery was an ideal surgical method by which nasal cavity could be broadened and nasal ventilatory function improved.</p>

ABSTRACT

Tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO), or oncogenic osteomalacia (OOM), is a rare acquired paraneoplastic disease characterized by renal phosphate wasting and hypophosphatemia. Recent evidence shows that tumor-overexpressed fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) is responsible for the hypophosphatemia and osteomalacia. The tumors associated with TIO are usually phosphaturic mesenchymal tumor mixed connective tissue variants (PMTMCT). Surgical removal of the responsible tumors is clinically essential for the treatment of TIO. However, identifying the responsible tumors is often difficult. Here, we report a case of a TIO patient with elevated serum FGF23 levels suffering from bone pain and hypophosphatemia for more than three years. A tumor was finally located in first metacarpal bone by octreotide scintigraphy and she was cured by surgery. After complete excision of the tumor, serum FGF23 levels rapidly decreased, dropping to 54.7% of the preoperative level one hour after surgery and eventually to a little below normal. The patient's serum phosphate level rapidly improved and returned to normal level in four days. Accordingly, her clinical symptoms were greatly improved within one month after surgery. There was no sign of tumor recurrence during an 18-month period of follow-up. According to pathology, the tumor was originally diagnosed as "lomangioma" based upon a biopsy sample, "proliferative giant cell tumor of tendon sheath" based upon sections of tumor, and finally diagnosed as PMTMCT by consultation one year after surgery. In conclusion, although an extremely rare disease, clinicians and pathologists should be aware of the existence of TIO and PMTMCT, respectively.
